TURN AWKWARD CORNERS INTO DESIGN MOMENTS

DECO'S TIPS & TRICKS

DECO HOMES TIPS & TRICKS

Awkward corners can sometimes feel like a weird space where nothing really goes and nothing really fits. But it doesn't need to be that way. These corners can be the perfect spot to make a design statement, create a cozy nook, or even a workspace. Keep reading to find out some DECO tips to turn your awkward corners into design moments.

BRING IN SMALL GREENERY OR PLANT A TREE
When you're trying to figure out what to do with any kind of empty space in your home, the answer can almost always be: potted houseplants. And awkward corners are no different. Add a variety of houseplants to bring in some lush colour and texture to your space.

In some cases, to really add some height to an awkward corner (and plenty of green), buy or make your own potted tree. For real plants, look for dwarf varieties that are hardy to changes in moisture and temperature, don't need tons of sun, and include some interesting foliage to boot.

INCORPORATE A WORKSTATION
Need an extra spot to get some work done or jot something down? Add a small desk to your awkward corner. Simple vintage writing desks are the perfect furniture for this, as they're small enough not to take up too much space but still look stylish enough to not look too industrial.

MAKE A STATEMENT WITH ARTWORK
Who says you need to add anything to the floor of an awkward corner to fill it up? The wall can work too. A gallery/art wall can be a great way to use an unused corner. Plus, what better way to make a statement by adding a little personality to your space? Its location in a corner keeps the entire room from feeling cluttered, but they're still on display in a prominent part of the home.

CREATE A COZY CONVERSATION NOOK
For larger corners (or otherwise awkward spots) in a living or great room space, add a a small conversation set. This will provide a nice place to get away from the hubbub of the main space, and it can be a great reading nook too.

STAND IN OPPORTUNITY
Who says stand-ins aren’t the stars of the show? Add a pedestal stand (or two) as the perfect stand in for those awkward areas – adding height, visual interest, and best of all, it looks so chic and displays whatever is on it perfectly!

Here are our DECO Pedestal Tips: Use a pedestal to elevate your lamp to a state of prominence; give your vase and sculpture an instant artifact or high-end look; for the minimalist feel, place a few books under a decorative water urn, box or vase to give more height and variation; last but not least, there’s nothing more pleasing than placing fresh cut flowers on a pedestal.

It is true, most eureka moments with awkward corners are simply opportunities in disguise and with DECO Homes, the possibilities are rewarding.
